I don’t even know where to start with her. It was spring when I first started listening to her. Rebirth. Renaissance. She is a new born artist, but the story doesn’t end here. She is the youngest artist to hit #1 on so many charts in the whole world. Teenagers all around the world are crazy about her songs, her fashion style and most importantly her good sense.
The question is what did she do to become this powerful and loved by an entire world? She spoke the truth. She put her soul and mind out there and wasn’t afraid to speak. « I’ve always done whatever I want and always been exactly who I am. » (Billie Eilish in Vanity Fair’s interview). This is her message, people feel inspired by her to be themselves and live in honesty.
God, I am so proud of us, humans, that we are moved by celebrities like her. Billie Eilish teaches millions of people not to give a dime on anyhting. We are all so caught up in the « world’s rules », when really we could do anyhting we want. As she would say, « we will all die someday », so what’s the point if we don’t speak our own truth?
Eilish doesn’t make music for fame, she didn’t get into the show business by being commercial, her songs are organic and are coming from a young deep girl’s heart. Her album « WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO » is filled with grief, anger, innocence and love. Thinking of how much she expresses with her lyrics and sounds, makes my heart beat so fast; it’s so impressive how she manages to build a home for us, who listen to her. Teenagers get her and she gets them, we all have the same feelings and we save each other by talking about them.
Sure, her singles like « Bellyache », « You should see me in a crown », « Idontwannabeyouanymore » are iconic and unforgettable, but believe me, her whole album is just as unique. Listening to her songs is an enitre experience and then finding out the hidden little details is mindblowing. There’s this song, for example, « ilomilo », which is named after her favorite childhood video game. If you listen closely to the instrumenta of the song, you’ll hear the same sounds which also come up in the game. Billie’s songs are a piece of art in every single part of them. Telling a story about having loved and letting go, the song « 8 » is made with two different voices: « Wait a minute, let me finish /I know you don’t care /But, can you listen? » are lyrics sung by the voice of a little girl, still hoping for her love to be accepted and wishing to be loved back. Growing up, the little human learns to let go and to set herself free, so the singer uses her own voice of a teenager’s and says « So I think I better go ». It is unbelievable how much value these songs are given, by putting a deeper thought into them when being written.
If I were to meet Billie Eilish one day, I don’t think I would be fanatically screaming or crying. I would give her a strong hug and thank her. She is art and her music is sounds, feelings, thoughts, words and honesty.
